California State University, Long Beach, in partnership with a number of Mexican Cultural and Health Centers, will create a 24-day study abroad program geared at increasing student understanding of Mayan tradition as well as health and cultural issues in contemporary Mexico. The cultural courses will address Mexican and Mayan history, which has become badly misconstrued by the media in the United States. Clarifying this misinformation becomes increasingly important as Yucateco and Mayan groups proliferate in the Los Angeles County basin.
