Project Title: Enhancing International Exchanges between Engineering Students at the University of Wyoming and the Autonomous University of Yucatán in Mérida, Mexico

The demand for engineering projects to become more global in nature and the need for engineering graduates to have international experience has spurred the University of Wyoming and Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán to leverage their existing connection and establish an exchange program in civil engineering. Students from Mexico will travel to Laramie, Wyoming where they will gain different perspectives on civil and structural engineering practices in the U.S. and participate in a hands-on learning experience in beam and wall design using the strength design methodology of the U.S. masonry code. In turn, U.S. students will travel to Mérida, Mexico to study the engineering aspects of the Mayan ruins, and learn about alternative construction methods and cultural preservation in Spanish colonial period architecture as well as pre-Colombian archaeological buildings
