Community-Based Training in Public Health and Economic Development in Ecuador and Ohio

The principal purpose of this project is to create a bilateral course within the International Student Exchange Program between students at Ohio University and Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador. The course will include both a virtual exchange and two bidirectional study abroad programs. The bidirectional exchange will allow students to engage in experiential learning in the southern Loja province, Ecuador and the Appalachian region of the United States. Both regions share similar challenges related to chronic poverty, lack of services, high rates of disease, and overall challenging conditions for social and economic development.
